The next big thing from Samsung, rumored as the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, is nearly confirmed to not scrimp on hardware upgrades with Snapdragon 835 touted as the power inside but for the RAM provision. Instead of 8GB, the 2017 flagship will be limited to 6GB RAM and for a completely valid reason.
As more evidences surfaced that the GS8 is being developed as an all-screen device, no physical buttons and sensors on the front panel, with its Super AMOLED screen supposedly rendering in 2K or 4K resolution, one chief concern is how the gadget will get going for an extended time with its monster hardware specifications. One obvious answer is the use of Qualcomm's SD 835 SoC that is tipped with more power but with increased efficiency.
It appears, however, that Samsung wants to make sure that the sequel to the Galaxy S7 will have enough power juice to last a day of extensive use. And the engineering solution it seems is putting a limit on the installed RAM.
In recent rumors, the Galaxy S8 is thought to unbox with a whopping 8GB RAM in order to gain better speed in mobile processing. The high amount of RAM, however, is seen as too taxing to the GS8 battery pack no matter the size.
So Samsung has decided, according to WCCFTech, to settle for the sweet spot - 6GB RAM should prove sufficient to boost computing speed while avoiding the likelihood of the mobile device becoming a power hog.
But in order to compensate, Samsung will go ahead with the supersized GS8 display and an all-screen profile, meaning the display will stretch as far as possible to the edge of the device. The new industrial design is also one way to make up for the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, the report added.
And the flagship device is all but confirmed to rock a maximum internal storage of 256GB with memory expansion, also a feature of the ill-fated Note 7.
In a related report, BGR said the Galaxy S8 will unpack with artificial intelligence (AI) features that will be identical to that of Apple's iPhone. Like Siri, the GS8 will feature its digital assistant in two voices - the male will be known as Bixby while the female is Kestra.
As earlier reported, the Galaxy S8 AI assistant will be powered by the Viv technology that Samsung recently acquired. Viv is the firm that developer Siri for Apple's iPhone 4S.
Samsung is rumored to introduce the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus as early as January next year via the Las Vegas CES 2017 but the actual release date for both devices is not expected to happen until March.
