Eight months after two internet challenges became viral on Chinese social media, another challenge is creating noise in China involving exposed body parts. It is the One-Finger Challenge which originated from an illustration by Sky-FreeDom, a Japanese anime artist.
In March, Chinese women posted photos of themselves on social media showing how slim their lower body parts are by placing an iPhone on their knees as an indicator of having slim legs. It was preceded by the A4 Challenge when a sheet of A4 was used to indicate a thin waistline.
Before that, Chinese women also heeded the Insert-the-Pen-under-the-Breast Challenge to show their breasts are firm. This time, the aim of the One-Finger Challenge is for women to cover their private parts while taking a selfie using only one finger.
Among the internet challenges that has gone viral in China in 2016, the One-Finger Challenge is the most risqué because parts of the breast and groin area are exposed and seen in the selfie as most of the women who take the challenge take their photos naked, Shanghaiist reported. The challenge has elicited negative comments on Weibo, China’s most popular social media portal.
A Weibo user called the women who took the One-Finger Challenge crazy. “I wouldn’t do this in ten thousand years!” the commenter wrote. Another netizen said he prefers to look at women who failed the challenge.
Besides the One-Finger Challenge, there is also another one that has gone viral, but it does not involve nudity. The “Behind the Back Breast Grab Challenge” is similar to the “Belly-Button Challenge” in June when young Chinese women posted photos of themselves reaching behind their backs to touch their belly button from the other side.
This other challenge is basically the same, but the body part they have to touch is the breast. However, the women are at least not topless or naked but wear tight-fitting blouses or bras only. Some males tried the challenge but found it more difficult than women did, according to Shanghaiist.
