Country music singer and songwriter Miranda Lambert, the former wife of Blake Shelton, is enjoying the success of her new album, "The Weight of These Wings." The new album was highly anticipated because it is a follow-up of Lambert's critically acclaimed "Platinum" in 2014 which was No. 1 on Billboard 200.
Lambert's 2014 album earned the Best Country Album Grammy award as well as Album of the Year from ACM and CMA. On top of the pressures that go with the "Platinum" followup, Lambert also underwent a public divorce in 2015 with her husband for four years, country music artist Blake Shelton. Shelton is now in a relationship with the former No Doubt vocalist Gwen Stefani while Lambert is dating soul/pop singer Anderson East.
Lovers of Lambert's music wondered if her new album will address her breakup with Shelton, and she did imply it would. The music artist wants to be honest with her songwriting.
"With my songwriting, it's taking a journey with what's been going on in my everyday life, good, bad, ugly and everything in between," Lambert told Billboard. "I feel like the right thing to do was just come out with something really honest."
The product of that honesty resulted in a work that depicts the country singer's down moments. Raw emotion and vulnerability can be felt in its 24 songs that could bring a tear to the listener. Overall, the songs range from breakup tunes to lighter music.
"The Weight of These Wings" which dropped on Nov. 18 flew to the top of Billboard's Top Country Albums chart in the last week of November with 122,000 units sold, Nash Country Daily reported. It is Lambert's sixth album to reach No. 1 of Billboard's chart following "Platinum," "Four the Record" in 2011, "Revolution" in 2009, "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" in 2007 and "Kerosene" in 2005.
The 33-year-old singer's new album has also become No. 3 on the all-genre Billboard Top 200 list. The singer wrote or co-wrote 20 out of the album's 24 tracks. Songwriters who worked on her new album include an A-list co-author team that has Natalie Hemby, Ashley Monroe, Shane McAnally and East.
