Sting is already in the WWE Hall of Fame and he is considered by many as one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time. However, the latest rumors imply that he might return to wrestling once again and he might appear at both the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 33.
The 57-year-old legend announced his retirement from wrestling during his induction speech at this year's WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. It should be noted that he suffered a neck injury during his match against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions last year.
There were still some people hoping for him to return for one final match, possibly against The Undertaker, but it is not going to happen. However, Sting was recently asked by ScreenGreek in an interview if he has really closed the door on a WWE return.
"At this point, I don't know," Sting said.
The six-time WCW World champion revealed in an episode of Legends with JBL on the WWE Network that he is holding off neck surgery. It is because he still wants to wrestle The Undertaker at WrestleMania.
"I am supposed to have surgery, but I'm having so many mixed messages out there. And the one thing I keep hearing is 'if you're not having side effects and you're okay, then don't do it,'" Sting said, as transcribed by 411 Mania.
"Yeah, that's the unfinished business (The Undertaker). I've always wanted to have that match. I know wrestling fans have always wanted to see it too," he added.
There is too much risk involved if Sting gets back in the ring. However, he could be useful as a draw for the upcoming Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 33. The WWE can always advertise him for those events and help it sell out.
The company has already relied on Bill Goldberg, who is a former WCW superstar, to increase the ratings. His return has caused a buzz, especially his squash win over Brock Lesnar at the Survivor Series last month.
Sting still has the popularity to attract fans as evidenced by the reaction he got in last year's WrestleMania 32 in San Francisco. Nevertheless, these are just purely speculative at this moment and nothing has been confirmed.
