First the bad news: Apple is unlikely to call its next flagship as iPhone 8 as a new report claimed that the S release phase will stay so it going to be an iPhone 7S 2017 release date with the same industrial design used with the iPhone 7. And the good news: the next iPhone remains a three-model push with the most premium of the lot bearing an all-screen and curved OLED display.
Pointing to a new story published by Japanese blog MacOtakara, MacRumors reported that the next iPhones to come out next year is next year will be nearly identical in terms of build and design. The casing will remain dominantly aluminum that on the front will be fused seamlessly with a glass front panel.
The iPhone 7 finish will be retained as well and buyers can pick from the existing color options of Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, Matte Black and the bestselling Jet Black. However, it is possible that Apple will another flavor to the mix - a Red iPhone.
Inside, the next iPhone 7 will jump from A10 Fusion chip to A11 as main engine that in all likelihood will be paired with iOS 11 in powering the next-generation flagship device.
But while the MacOtakara report did not mention the rumored supersized 5.8-inch iPhone for next year, Apple Insider said the model becoming real remains a big possibility. Apple is likely to opt for a refresh in 2017 that essentially will carry over the design language seen in the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, basically representing an incremental jump from the previous generation.
Then in keeping with the predictions issued recently by KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo, Apple will produce the biggest of the 2017 iPhones and as speculated earlier the device will be headlined by "an OLED display with invisible home button, all-glass housing, wireless charging and other exotic technologies," Apple Insider said.
Kuo also said in his most recent notes that while the most high-end of the next iPhones will sport a 5.8-inch profile the active touchscreen display will only measure a maximum of 5.2-inch.
The same reports did not indicate a specific timing for the iPhone 7S or 8 release date but per the recent details that came out, mass production of the next iPhone will be pushed back from May or June next year to August or September. That would mean debut time will not happen until October at the earliest.
