Western fans of "Dragon Ball Super" have something to look forward to starting next year. After waiting for a time, the action-oriented anime will finally be a part of Toonami's lineup in January.
The English-dubbed version of the anime series will start from the beginning, which is the Beerus arc, also known as the Battle of Gods Saga. This is the period after the events of the Majin Buu Saga, when Beerus and Whis arrived on Earth. This is where Beerus fights it out with the Super Saiyan God.
Toei Animation, Funimation Entertainment and Adult Swim have announced in an official statement that "Dragon Ball Super" Season 1 will start airing on Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. ET and will have a total of 26 episodes. The first season will also include the Resurrection 'F' story arc.
The original "Dragon Ball" started airing in the United States 20 years ago. The new story line was introduced 18 years after the last one and is still from the original creator, Akira Toriyama.
"'Dragon Ball Super' comes with everything viewers can hope for after waiting 18 long years for a new series - impressible dangers to overcome, the reuniting of beloved characters, and new additions to the mythos that will rock Dragon Ball's very foundation," Toei Animation Inc. President and CEO Masayuki Endo said in the statement. He also added that they are all excited to bring back the show, in English, to its western fans.
Funimation was tasked to do the dubbing for the series and it has availed the services of several veteran actors. These include Seán Schemmel as Son Goku, Jason Douglas as Beerus, Christopher R. Sabat as Vegeta, Ian Sinclair as Whis, and Sonny Strait as Krillin.
Additionally, according to Forbes, "Dragon Ball Z Kai" will air on Toonami starting Jan. 7 at 12:00 a.m.
