Park Shin Hye and Yoo Jae Suk's philanthropic deeds were recently unveiled. The South Korean actress and the "Running Man" cast member each made secret donations to help the victims of a fire at Daegu's Seonum Market.
The "Doctors" actress and Yoo each donated 50 million won (around $43,000) to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. The two South Korean celebrities' financial assistance will benefit the citizens whose Seonum Market shops were destroyed by a fire.
Park made her donation in secret and did not share the details of the financial assistance even with her entertainment agency. In an interview with Yonhap News, a representative from S.A.L.T. Entertainment shared that they only learned of the "Pinocchio" star's actions several days after Park made the donation.
The actress has been known to participate in various activities and programs that will benefit less fortunate individuals and families. Recently, Park was inducted as the newest member of the Korea Food for the Hungry International's (KFHI) Philanthropy Club given the high number of donations that she previously made to the organization.
Meanwhile, "Running Man" cast member Yoo also made a similar donation for the victims of the Seonum Market fire. A representative from the Hope Bridge organization shared in an interview with Ten Asia that the comedian kept details of his recent philanthropic action a secret even from his manager.
When the organization noticed a donation made under Yoo's name, they contacted his manager to confirm if the "Running Man" cast member was the one who extended the financial assistance. However, Yoo's manager conveyed his surprise since he was not made aware of the comedian's donation.
Similar to Park, Yoo has also made several donations to various organizations to help disaster victims. He previously extended financial help to victims of Super Typhoon Chaba that ravaged South Korea in October.
The Seonum Market fire transpired on Nov. 30 and burned down more than 670 stores, as well as injuring two firemen. Watch a news clip of the said incident below:
