Four-member girl group 2NE1 left a hole in every K-Pop fan's heart when it was announced that they were officially disbanding. The curtains may have closed on the South Korean super group, but their memories and songs together remain. Here are five things that fans are definitely going to miss from 2NE1.
"What's up?! We 2NE1!"
Every idol group is introduced with a signature greeting, and 2NE1 is probably the most recognizable of them all. The catchy "we 2NE1" greeting comes with choreographed hand gestures showing the numbers two and one. Because of its style and the way the members say it, other artists have mimicked it. It is even used in the intro of some of their songs.
"I Am The Best"
To many K-Pop devotees, 2NE1 is the unofficial leader of girl anthems and female empowerment. "I Am The Best" is indisputably one of their biggest songs ever, if not the biggest. The song is considered one of the most influential Hallyu wave songs that put 2NE1 on the center of the international music scene and contributed to further the popularity of K-Pop overseas. It also won multiple awards, including Song of the Year at the MAMA 2011.
Seeing all four members perform this on stage brings the audience to their feet. Fans will definitely miss 2NE1 performing this live.
2NE1's unique sense of style
2NE1 was like the group of cool girls in high school that aimed to stand out instead of just fit in. When they first came out, CL, Dara, Park Bom and Minzy exuded a sense of uniqueness and individuality that set them apart from the other groups.
They came out wearing outfits not a lot of female idol groups wore. Although sometimes unconventional, 2NE1 had an identity of their own that no other group can match. Remember Sandara Park's crazy hairstyle in "Fire" and electric blue locks in "Come Back Home"? Fans will definitely miss seeing those.
2NE1's bond
In YG Entertainment, everyone is like a family. For the members of 2NE1, they treat each other as sisters. All four members share a deep bond that can easily be seen through their interactions on TV. In the reality show "2NE1 TV," all members showed genuine care for one another and shared crazy antics when they were in the comforts of their dorm.
In one particular interview, CL even rushed to Sandara's rescue when she went from the 31st to the 34th floor of a building during an earthquake. Together, CL and Sandara went down 34 flights of stairs to reunite with the other members who were waiting for them in the lobby, Soompi reported.
2NE1: The award-winning, high-charting girl group
Several groups have come and gone in the entertainment industry, but not a lot has left a mark quite like 2NE1 has. To date, 2NE1's "Crush" album is still the highest-ranking K-Pop album on the Billboard 200. The group had 19 hits enter the World Digital Songs chart and with three albums on the top 10 of the World Albums chart.
