Apple has just released the iPhone 7 but many are already expecting the iPhone 8. The Cupertino-based tech giant could be cooking up something big with regards to specs of the phone.
There has been a new patent that was discovered which could have something to do with the upcoming iPhone 8. Apple's patent titled Electronic Devices with Display and Touch Sensor Structures details a device that would have the said sensors on any other part of the phone.
Currently, most smartphones place the fingerprint sensor either in the back or at the home button itself. It could prove to be cumbersome for some users who do not want to position their fingers before they can access the smartphone. Apple's patent also shows the similar sidewall shapes that can be found in Samsung's Galaxy Edge series, Apple Insider reported.
It remains to be seen whether Apple will actually make the iPhone 8 have a curved screen similar to Samsung's flagship smartphones. That would cause more criticism than praise considering that they might just be copying the design of their rival.
Apple could also use a rear touch panel similar to what Sony did in the PlayStation Vita console, Forbes reported. The rear touch panel paved the way for more innovative controls although mobile smartphone designers did not see it that way.
The LG V20 has its touch sensor on the back of the device while the previous ASUS Zenfone 2 phones had the power button also on the rear. Some people hated the design while some just got used to it. Apple could find a way to innovate at the back of the iPhone 8 if they are so inclined to be the star of the smartphone industry one again.
Fans are also waiting for the iPhone 8 because it would reportedly be the first iPhone to feature an OLED screen. Apple is expected to shed light on the matter in their next press event for the iPhone which is probably a year from now.
