Just days after Song Ji-Hyo and Kim Jong-Kook were announced to be leaving SBS' "Running Man," latest reports are claiming that the two were actually forced out of the show without any heads up. The sudden decision was reportedly made unilaterally by the show's producers.
It came to light when both Song and Kim's entertainment label admitted that they were caught off-guard when the Hallyu stars were asked to leave the show, according to local newsoulet Ilgan Sports, as cited by Soompi. It is said that the actress only knew she was expelled from the show after the news made headlines.
"Two weeks ago, we heard from 'Running Man' that the show would be reorganized with two cast members leaving," a source from Song's agency MY Company said, adding that the reason behind the changes was that "Running Man" would return with a new style and format in 2017. "We found out this morning that Song Ji Hyo would be one of the two leaving."
Kim's agency, Maroo Entertainment, then confirmed that they were told about the actor leaving the show one-sidedly. They then stressed how regrettable it was taken care of, stressing that it was a program Kim really cared for and took part in even though he was not in the best health condition. His last recording will take place on Dec. 19, the agency revealed.
This comes after Kang Hee-Gun, better known as Gary, decided to leave the SBS show to focus on his career as a musician, All Kpop reported. The 38-year-old rapper was one of the original members for the past seven years and is the second original cast member to leave the show. The first one was Song Joong-Ki, 31, who left the program in 2011 to focus on his acting career.
With Ji-Hyo and Kim confirmed to leave the program at the end of the current season, fans cannot help but wonder who will replace them. More details about "Running Man" Season 2 will be revealed soon.
