Weeks after the retirement of veteran mixed martial artist Manny Gamburyan, UFC women's division fighter Anna Elmose also decided to hang up her gloves into retirement following a unanimous decision loss to Amanda Cooper at UFC Fight Night 99 in their strawweight fight last November.
Elmose had just fought twice in the UFC and has only five MMA fights under her belt but said she lost the passion to fight and the motivation to push herself to compete with other elite fighters has already been gone, as reported by MMA Junkie.
'Panda' said in her Instagram account that she "no longer have the necessary desire, will to win or hunger to compete." She added that she has no excuses with her loss to Cooper and said she had never been in better shape and her plans coming into the fight went accordingly but did not feel "any kind of buzz at all."
Elmose knocked down Cooper in Belfast but said she did not feel the rush of the fight as she usually does and at that point, she knew that her passion for the game was already gone. The 32-year-old also shared she lost her "fighter heart."
Prior to the fight, Elmose, as reported by SB Nation's Bloody Elbow, said that the fight with Cooper is going to be exciting after dropping to strawweight following a loss in the bantamweight division.
Cooper, after being knocked down, came back furiously and almost won a fight via stoppage by utilizing her ground and pound until the final horn sounded. The judges scored the bout 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28.
Elmose thanked the UFC, Intensiti Fighter Management and Rumble Sports who turned the "chubby hobby-kickboxer to an elite MMA-fighter in only three years." She hinted in her post that she would be pursuing other endeavors and adventures.
