tvN's Friday-Saturday drama "Goblin" is gaining more popularity day by day. The sixth episode of the fantasy drama drew monster viewership last Dec. 17, Saturday, surpassing most programs in nationwide ratings.
The Dec. 17 broadcast of tvN's "Goblin," which showed Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) and Ji Eun-Tak's (Kim Go-Eun) kiss scene, accumulated a national TV rating of 14.77 percent, according to AGB Nielsen Media Research, as cited by Soompi. The number was good enough to make the drama's sixth episode as the highest rated scene so far.
The show's steady increase in viewership ratings is credited to its A-list cast and refreshing storyline. Not to mention that it was written by Kim Eun-Sook, who brought the mega-hit TV series "Descendants of the Sun" and "The Heirs."
However, it seems that many viewers are not happy with the love line plot between Gong and Kim's characters. In the 16-episode drama, the former plays an immortal goblin, while the latter transforms into a senior high school student.
Considering their huge age gap, many netizens took to the drama's official website, as cited by All Kpop, asking the writer to reconsider the love angle between the two. They claimed the dialogues between Kim Shin and Ji Eun-Tak is uncomfortable to watch, as it indirectly promotes pedophilia.
"Do I have to watch a drama that portrays a pedophile in 2016?" one netizen wrote. "The man who looks like he is middle aged and a minor falling for each other is being portrayed as romance...It's disgusting."
In spite of that, the show's original soundtrack, titled "Beautiful," blasted its way to the top of the music charts across South Korea. It recently ranked number one on Naver Music, Melon, Genie, Mnet, Bugs, Monkey3 and Olleh Music.
