A baby girl was found alive by a fisherman after he saw the child hanging upside down above water and was in her car seat on Saturday afternoon.
BBC reports that the car where the baby girl was found has been involved in a car crash 14 hours ago and plunged into a river in Utah called the Spanish Fork River. The baby is 18 months old and was immediately taken to a hospital in Salt Lake City and is now in stable condition.
However, the mother of the baby girl, named Lynn Groesbeck, 25 years old, was found dead in the driver's seat and police officials are saying that the vehicle crashed into the river at 22:30 on Friday. The child was seen at around 12:30 on Saturday as the fisherman saw the girl dangling. There were three police officers and three firefighters who went to the river in order to rescue the child. According to reports, the river was very cold and that the rescuers were also treated for hypothermia.
According to CNN, a resident that was near the river noted that there was a loud crash the night before the car was found but he did not see anything unusual so he did not alert the authorities about it.
It is not yet sure how the car ended up in the river as Spanish Force Police Lt. Matt Johnson said, "There's not anything at the scene, as far as evidence goes, as why the vehicle left roadway. There were no skid marks to show evasive maneuvers, to show why the vehicle left the roadway and traveled into the river."
The car will be examined if there was break failure or other malfunctions in order to understand what caused the car to crash. The relatives of the mother of the 18-month-old baby said that they left Salem, Utah and were heading home to Springville, Utah.
