This year saw a lot of pilot episodes in television and while there are literally hundreds of shows to choose from, the new ones did not fail to disappoint to capture a share of the audience attention.
Variety reported that for this year, there are about 400 scripted television programs competing for the audience's attention. It includes shows of all sorts from new to returning ones from limited-run shows, miniseries, and anthologies running from 30 minutes to an hour.
Here are the 10 best new television programs for 2016 in no particular order:
1. West World
HBO's newest masterpiece can now be considered a global occult. The growth of this highly anticipated phenomenon can also be credited to its high-caliber actors that include the legendary Anthony Hopkins and Jeffrey Wright.
2. The Crown
The Crown has great costumes and fancy palace halls but Cair Foy definitely shows the audience who's queen and they just couldn't get enough of her.
3. The People v. O.J. Simpson
Slate TV Club dubbed the show as "the best series that could've possibly emerged from 2016." The compelling drama based on events from 20 years ago still captivates and engages the audience. The show has an impressive roster of actors top billed by Cuba Gooding, Jr. and John Travolta.
4. Atlanta
Created by Donald Glover, it is considered as one of the most honest shows of 2016 with its casual approach on tackling issues of racism as it is and not offering explanations or apologies.
5. Billions
Stars Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti, the drama pits Manhattan's high rollers against savvy attorney in a rich performance that does not disappoint. It's classy, funny and rich in sarcastic humor.
6. Fleabag
The show stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who wrote the theatrical monologue last year from which the show was based. The Guardian noted that it was a good performance where the actor connects very well with the audience.
7. Insecure
The show takes on real problems we really don't want to talk about from personal relationships to workplace issues and microaggressions.
8. The Good Place
Why is this such a hit? Who wouldn't want to be in a good place? With the perfect ensemble cast, this is probably one of the best half-hour genre we have seen in a while.
9. The Night Manager
This spy drama from AMC stars Olivia Colman, Hugh Laurie, and Tom Hiddleston. The show looks into the world of the bureaucrats, the influential and the well connected and how they bend and break rules.
10. Stranger Things
A story of adventure, family friends and growing up, this Netflix show may star young actors but they are the ones that capture your heart and imagination and leaves you wanting more.
