Alexa Bliss is one of the most up and coming female superstar in the WWE at the moment. She is the current SmackDown women's champion despite just making her main roster debut in July. The 25-year-old talked about her life, her title and the role of women in wrestling in an interview.
Bliss, whose real name is Alexis Kaufman, was born in Columbus, Ohio and she grew up as a wrestling fan. Even though she is only 5-foot-1 and weighs around 100 pounds, she pursued wrestling and it shocked her family.
"My family had watched wrestling ever since I was young, but my mom was really surprised when I said I wanted to try out for wrestling," Bliss told The Oakland County Press.
The reigning SmackDown women's champion added that her parents were in attendance when she won the title at the TLC pay-per-view in Dallas. It was a surreal moment for Bliss as she defeated Becky Lynch in a Tables Match.
It is a great time to be a female wrestler in the WWE at the moment. The company has given the spotlight to the women and they have delivered. Sasha Banks and Charlotte have main evented a PPV while Bliss continues to impress every week.
The 25-year-old also talked about her start in the WWE in 2013 and how different it was today. She noted that they were restricted in the ring at that time but the rise of women's wrestling changed all of that. Now, she feels empowered with her role in the company at the moment.
"It feels amazing, especially being a male-dominated sport, to be at the forefront of WWE. To have women that are main eventing and making history, time after time. It's so empowering, and I can't wait to see what the future holds," Bliss said.
As recapped by WWE.com, Bliss faced off against Lynch on last week's SmackDown for the women's title. She lost via count out while citing a leg injury for not going back to the ring. It looks like Bliss vs. Lynch is not over and the kayfabe injury just adds to the story.
The Harley Quinn of WWE made her wrestling debut in 2013 in NXT. She spent about three years in the developmental system before getting called up in the WWE Draft. She was selected by SmackDown and she ascended to the top in just five months.
