Nintendo has announced that the company is releasing a brand new pair of playing cards. These cards will be themed after the recently released "Pokemon Sun and Moon" games and will have unique Pokemon in each pack.
There will be two separate packs with one representing "Pokemon Sun" and the other representing "Pokemon Moon." Each one will also have sets of unique Joker cards, showcasing the default male and female Pokemon trainers from the games, the official Nintendo site announced.
Like the games, the "Pokemon Sun" deck of cards will have Pokemon that are exclusive to that set. The "Pokemon Moon" deck will also have its set of exclusive Pokemon. Both will have the aforementioned Joker cards.
As of the time of writing, the two playing card decks are only scheduled to release in Japan this month of December. No plans of releasing them in North America or Europe have yet been announced. Each deck of cards will cost 540 Yen or approximately $4.50, Nintendo Everything reported.
The sample cards shown also reveal that the artwork won't just focus on the new Pokemon introduced in "Pokemon Sun and Moon." There will also be artwork showcasing the Generation 1 Pokemon that have Alola forms such as Ratatta, Muk, Marowak and Persian.
These are not the only "Pokemon" themed playing cards to have been officially released by Nintendo. Several older deck of cards were released between 1998 and 2005, during the height of the franchise's popularity.
However, these cards were not as popular as the "Pokemon Trading Card Game" which is still being played today. Nintendo has not yet given any updates if the Trading Card Game will also get updates this month or in 2017.
These "Pokemon Sun and Moon" playing cards are scheduled to release this month however Nintendo did not issue a specific launch date. Nintendo has yet to announce if other "Pokemon Sun and Moon" merchandise are scheduled to release around the holidays.
