"Westworld" Season 1 has proven a massive success for HBO, scoring several nominations for the Golden Globes and Emmy Awards. Despite its success, the studios are not rushing to release Season 2 next year and actor Luke Hemsworth, who plays Ashley Stubbs on the show, explains why.
"They are trying to get it right," Hemsworth explained in an interview with the Independent. "They don't want to go in doing what they were doing last time where they were under the cosh the whole time. They want to go in with a clear plan, A to Z and everything in between, at least have drafts in place."
Before the series concluded its run on HBO series creator Jonathan Nolan did reveal that the series was already mapped out for five or six seasons. This will be similar to "Game of Thrones," which already had a planned ending even when the series was still in production of its first season.
Hemsworth further revealed he could not share any details regarding the fate of his character because he genuinely did not know. According to the actor, the creators and producers of the show were open but only to a certain point.
The big reveal regarding Jeffrey Wright's character was cited as an example. While Wright knew about the twist about his character starting the day they began working on Episode 2, the rest of the cast were kept in the dark until filming for the revelatory episode began production.
According to Games Radar, the explanation for the show's delay is justifiable and the cast can be trusted to keep a secret, given how many plot points had been kept from the public as Season 1 aired. This would guarantee that the twists and turns in Season 2 will not leak out as easily as they might for other shows.
Audiences last saw his character in episode 9 titled "The Well-Tempered Clavier." He is alerted of a signal coming from Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward), who had gone missing a few episodes back. When he tries searching for her he is attacked by members of the Ghost Nation and it is uncertain if his character survives or is killed.
"Westworld" Season 2 is currently scheduled to premiere by 2018. The official trailer for Season 1 can be viewed below:
