Google introduced Project Fi in 2015 in hopes of making a solution for the lagging mobile phone network services. It partnered with Sprint and T-Mobile to offer a cheap phone service that had better coverage area and faster feeds than any other network. For those who are interested in using the service with their Pixel or Nexus Smartphone, here's a quick guide.
On the official website of Google Play, interested users can download the Project Fi app on their phone. To start the service, they will need to register an account to the app's signup page and order a SIM kit from there. They can now start using the service with the registered account.
The app is compatible with several Google smartphones like the Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 6. There is also a requirement for these devices to be unlocked or else these will not work with the service. They should also be running on Android 5.1 Lollipop or above.
Users need to activate Project Fi when they receive the SIM kit from the app's official website. The handset must be plugged into a power source to make sure that it does not shut down unexpectedly during the installation process. It should also be connected to a Wi-Fi network to have an internet connection.
After activating the app, users will need to set up the phone to use it. They will have to turn off the phone and insert the SIM card from the kit. After turning it on again, they can follow the series of onscreen steps to activate the app.
If the first setup process has been successful, users can now activate the new Project Fi number. They can also use an existing number and transfer it there. Check the latest updates of Hangouts, Messenger, and Project Fi apps in the phone.
A Reddit user posted on its official website that he called the support for Project Fi to ask about domestic data roaming. The customer support assured that the data will keep on flowing, and there will be no additional charge for it. The data that the users will use will just be added to their regular bill instead.
