The Phoenix Suns are reportedly not placing Brandon Knight on the trading block but the word around is that the 25-year-old guard will eventually change zip codes soon. He is drawing interest from the Sacramento Kings, a club that could add a talented shooting guard to its rotation.
The NBA trade deadline is set for Feb. 23, 2017, and Knight is looming as one of the top prospects available. The Kings interest on Knight is nothing new, having set their sights on the shooting guard since last Summer, ESPN reported.
It remains to be seen if talks have picked up once again with Knight looming as the odd man out for the Suns' backcourt rotation. He currently finds himself jockeying for playing time alongside Eric Bledsoe and rising star Devin Booker.
The former first-round pick of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons has become a journeyman since setting foot in the NBA. After the Pistons, Knight found himself landing with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013 before settling last year with the Suns.
Seeing Knight go to the Kings makes a lot of sense considering the charges of coach Dave Joerger could use him to man the point. With seemingly no place in the Suns' rotation, Knight could be of better use to a team that could exhaust his talent, Fox Sports reported.
The Kings do have the troubled Darren Collison at the moment though inserting a young explosive guard in Knight could be best for the future of the franchise. The Kings are struggling this season and finding a suitable partner for DeMarcus Cousins could help turn things around.
If a trade ensues, a logical player that could be dealt is Rudy Gay. The 30-year-old small forward made it known that he will be opting out after this season as he joins a loaded free agent market next Summer.
Rather than end up with nothing, the Kings are expected to deal Gay and get something in return. Phoenix now becomes a possible trade partner and an exchange for Knight could be happening soon.
