AMD has teased fans regarding their new Vega GPU architecture. They may finally unveil the new RX 490 or RX 500 video cards to take on NVIDIA's Pascal-powered GTX 1080 and GTX 1070.
The AMD Vega GPU architecture is expected to be more powerful than the current Polaris line that powers the Radeon RX 480 down to the RX 460. Fans were quite disappointed that AMD did not release a high-end video card in 2016 although the RX 480'x price-to-value ratio certainly beats the previous line of video cards from both theirs and NVIDIA's.
AMD's teaser image which was posted on Twitter shows what seems to be a man with a red scarf or jacket facing a bright vertical light, WCCF Tech reported. The accompanying caption says something about the new architecture, which is presumed to be the Vega GPU upgrades for 2017.

Since AMD will be introducing a new GPU architecture, it is expected that the new video card would be named RX 500. However, earlier reports suggest that it could still be the Radeon RX 490 if they will not be releasing any new Polaris-powered video cards in the near future.
The actual specs have not been confirmed yet but the AMD Vega 10 GPU may feature 16GB HBM2 memory along with a peak compute performance of 12.5 TFLOPs based on the demonstrations showed at the recent AMD Tech Summit 2016. It is considerably faster than the Fiji architecture which has 8.2 TFLOPs, Top Tech News reported.
Vega video cards are expected to carry both HBM2 and GDDR5/x variants from AMD, . Some even expect that they will be better than the current Pascal cards with the exception of the upcoming GTX 1080 Ti which bridges the gap between the GTX 1080 and the Pascal Titan X. Price and release dates are still vague but earlier reports suggest that it would be sold sometime in the first quarter of 2017.
