Author George R.R. Martin has posted his tribute to both actress Carrie Fisher and writer Richer Adams. Fisher passed away this past Dec. 27, Thursday due to a cardiac arrest while Adams died peacefully in his sleep on Christmas Eve. Fisher's mother, actress Debbie Reynolds, passed away the following day due to breathing complications.
Martin is known for writing the "Song of Ice and Fire" novels which were later adapted into the widely successful "Game of Thrones" series on HBO. He posted his tribute on a blog titled "A Bad Year Gets Worse."
"There is not much I can say about the death of Carrie Fisher that a thousand other people have not said already," Martin wrote. "She was way too young. A bright, beautiful, talented actress, and a strong, witty, outspoken woman. Princess Leia will live as long as 'Star Wars' does, probably forever."
In regards to the death of Adams, who wrote the fantasy novel "Watership Down," Martin wrote how he considered him as one of the greatest fantasy writers of the 20th century. Martin also mentioned that he ranked Adams alongside other renowned fantasy writers such as T.H. White and J.R.R. Tolkien.
Martin continued to point out that Adams was not as popular as his contemporaries possibly due to the fact that Adams never attended conventions and was not an active member of the fantasy community. He also pointed out that while "Watership Down" is Adams' most famous work, the writer did other novels such as "Shardik," "Maia" and "The Plague Dogs."
The author also pointed out that Adams deserved a life achievement award from the World Fantasy Convention. He explained he had campaigned for Adams to receive this award for years, partially in order to meet Adams, but this never came to pass.
2016 has also seen the death of other known celebrities such as boxer Muhammad Ali and several musicians such as Prince, David Bowie, George Michael and Leonard Cohen, Rolling Stone reported. Martin reflected on this and ended his blog post stating "Please, let this wretched year come to an end."
The official trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," one of the last films Fisher starred in prior to her death, can be viewed below:
