Mick Schumacher has taken another bold step to follow the legacy of his father Michael, signing with Prema Powerteam to inch closer to a possible F1 stint. He will be racing in the Formula Three European Championship next season.
The 17-year-old will try to follow the success of other F1 youngsters which include Lance Stroll, Max Verstappen, and Esteban Ocon. He previously raced for Prema at the ADAC Formula 4 and the Italian F4 Championship, ESPN reported.
"F3 will be the ideal step for me to make, and I am totally fired up for the new year to start," Schumacher said. "I am also really happy about staying with Prema because this is such a professional team and I will again be able to learn a lot.
Without question, Mick Schumacher is hoping that this move will allow him to become as successful as his father. And while all that seems to be within reach, the former karting star made it clear that he will only step up to the F1 ranks once he feels he is ready, The Sun reported.
Michael Schumacher would have been happy to see his son move up in the motorsport ranks. The F1 legend continues to be holed up at his Lake Geneva mansion following an unfortunate skiing accident back in 2013.
