While there are a lot of series to look forward to next year, "Sherlock" Season 4 is definitely on the every viewers list.
Creators of the TV series finally announced the release date of its fourth installment, which will premiere on Jan. 1 next year, News Everyday reported.
According to Mirror, Sherlock's creator Steven Moffat has commented that the next series of the BBC show could be the last. "We do have two film stars in the programme. They haven't needed to do these jobs for a very long time. They're coming back because they want to," Moffat says.
However, this detail was not included in the producer's announcement.
Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Sherlock Holmes along with Martin Freeman as Doctor Watson and his off-screen wife Amanda Abbington, who is also playing as his on-screen wife Mary. "Sherlock's" co-creator Mark Gatiss will also be back as Sherlock's brother Mycroft, while Una Stubbs is also set to return as Sherlock's landlady Mrs. Hudson.
Andrew Scott, who is playing as Moriarty, is said to return to the show; however, the fans still has no idea as to how that would happen. The season's video teaser hints that "Sherlock" Season 4 might progress to a much darker theme than the previous seasons.
Toby Jones will also be part of the cast as the villain Culverton Smith, one of Arthur Conan Doyle's greatest bad guys, The Sun reported. Also, rumor has it that Tom Hiddleston will appear to join the cast as the third Holmes brother, as he was seen at the San Diego Comic Con together with Mark Gatiss and Amanda Abbington.
At the San Diego Comic Con, the "Sherlock" panel gave out three names as clues to the events of "Sherlock" Season 4: Thatcher, Smith and Sherrinford.
It was said that Sherrinford Holmes is a hypothetical elder brother of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes.
Furthermore, at the Comic-Con, it was revealed that "Sherlock" Season 4 episode one will be titled as "The Six Thatchers" while episode two will be titled "The Lying Detective." The two episodes appear to be based on the "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons" and "The Adventure of the Dying Detective."
