"God of War" is entering a new dawn with the making of the fourth installment of the game. But rather than the Greek god-hating Kratos gamers have grown fond of in the first three games, Kratos is now in the world of Norse mythology guiding his son throughout the game. But after it was pre-released in the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016 in June, gamers would have to keep wondering since there is no official release date yet.
The game will be a soft reboot of the original game as the title suggests that it is not a fourth part of the series, with it being called just "God of War." Unlike the first three games where Kratos is alone journeying parts of Greece, the new game would include his son whom he will protect and will teach haunting. Despite the addition of his son, "God of War" would still be a single-player game, Den of Geek reported.
It could be concluded that new "God of War" timeline coincides after the previous games' timeliness as director Cory Barlog said that Kratos' son does not know of his father's previous exploits. But it can be noted that Kratos, in the 2010 game "God of War III," impaled himself with the Blade of Olympus though it is not known if he died after or went on to live.
Barlog added that Kratos' son knows he is a demigod but does not know of his past. The 41-year-old creative director of Sony Interactive Entertainment's Santa Monica Studio said in an interview with Gamespot that gamers could expect more once "God of War" is released since it will not be the last time people will see Kratos as the main protagonist of the franchise.
Also, Barlog told the gaming site that the new "God of War" is "open, but it's not an open world" and that there would be a new camera angles that would entice gamers into a "player-controlled experience." In its pre-release, the game has won Special Commendation for Graphics in the 2016 Game Critics Awards.
Players would need to be up on their feet once news of the game's release date is announced but for now, watch the video below to see the gameplay of "God of War":
