Samsung Galaxy S8 has become more interesting with the reported wireless earphone compatibility. This AirPods-like earpiece may add more functionality and flexibility to the upcoming Samsung flagship smartphone.
With the efforts to attract more consumers and rebuild the broken trust caused by Note 7 fiasco, Samsung Galaxy S8 may soon receive a significant design upgrade. Based on reports, Galaxy S8 will be adapting a wireless connectivity when it comes to its earbuds. The rumored Bluetooth earbuds will have design and functionality similar to that of the Apple AirPods, according to Express.
In the past months, rumors already hinted that the upcoming S8 will be without a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack similar to that of the Apple iPhone 7. Thus, suggesting either an upgrade to USB-C headphones or the currently rumored wireless ones. In the past, Samsung already ventured into wireless earbuds, like the Gear IconX designed for fitness and health. The said wireless earbuds has a built-in 4GB music player for phone-free listening and fitness monitor, according to Boy Genius Report.
However, the speculated wireless device for Samsung Galaxy S8 may not have similar features and appearance to that of the Gear IconX. The upcoming wireless earpiece may be more similar to the recently released AirPods of Apple. Thus, posing the question regarding a potential patent issue.
In retrospect, Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. had their own experience with patent lawsuits over the design of smartphones and tablet computers. Consequently, with the rumored AirPods inspired design for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8, it cannot be helped to view things in light of the past events.
However, it is too early to conclude on things, it would be best to wait for the speculated release of Galaxy S8 this coming April, as mentioned in a separate report. By then, more details of both the mobile and its earpiece will come to fore.
