Apple recently unveiled its newest line of MacBook laptop and so far it is the thinnest and lightest laptop the company has ever produced.
Apple's new MacBook measures just 13.1 mm which is 24 percent thinner compared to the latest variant of the MacBook Air. For comparison, the MacBook Air is 17 mm thick. Aside from incredibly thin, the new MacBook is also very light when compared to its predecessor. Apple said that the new laptop weighs only two pounds compared to MacBook Air's 2.38 pounds.
However, in order to come up with a very thin and light body Apple has to cut around some corner and this could prove very vital to the success of the new MacBook. The new MacBook doesn't have the standard USB port which is a ubiquitous component of every laptop in the market.
Instead, Apple only integrated its newest laptop with a single USB-C port and a headphone port. This means that users of the new MacBook won't be able to charge the laptop and transfer data at the same time unless they use a multiport adaptor which will cost them around $79.
Apple's new MacBook design relies most of its data transfer in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection. The single USB-C port however can support DisplayPort, HDMI, VGA, power and data transfer. Additionally, Apple is also planning to sell VGA and HDMI adapters in the future, according to The Verge.
The MacBook will hit the stores on Apr. 10. Pricing starts at $1,299 for the 1.5 GHz dual-core variant with turbo boost of up to 2.4 GHz and 256GB internal storage. The 1.2GHz dual-core variant with turbo boost of 2.4GHz and 512GB storage space will be for $1,599. Both models will have 8GB of RAM and will use the Intel Core M chip with integrated Intel HD Graphics 5300, according to iDigital Times.
