K-drama fans have been delighted in 2016 with its amazing offerings and everyone is hopeful that it will become even better in 2017. The year started with ongoing K-dramas for the Winter Season with several ones standing out.
"Goblin" starring Gong Yoo and Kim Go Eun on the Total Variety Network becomes the network's highest rated series among all K-drama viewership. It beats "Signal" and has few episodes to beat "Reply 1988," according to Soompi.
"Goblin" stars Gong Yoo, Lee Dong Wook, Yoo In Na and Kim Go Eun and tells about a 939-year-old immortal goblin who protects souls. He is searching for his bride who can remove the sword from his chest.
The goblin found his bride in Kim's character and they both fall in love. He once desired to be dead but now he wants to live with her but may not get that happiness. The drama's finale will be on Jan. 21.
Though "Goblin" dominates the Winter Season, the network that dominates the season is Korean television company Seoul Broadcasting System with two K-dramas taking the airwaves, "The Legend of the Blue Sea" and "Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim".
"The Legend of the Blue Sea" starring Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun marks the small screen comeback of the two lead stars after two to three years. The drama which is set to end on Jan. 26 is Lee's last project before his mandatory military service. Jun's last project was a massive 2014 hit "My Love From the Stars."
Lee and Jun's drama tells about a mermaid saved by a human during the Joseon era. They fell in love with each other but their love ended because she is immortal and he is not. In the modern era, the mermaid sees her lover again in a con man and her love continues.
"Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim" starring Han Suk Kyu, Seo Hyun Jin and Yoo Yeon Seok has higher viewership than "The Legend of the Blue Sea" despite less media attention and publicity. It is the most viewed series in its time slot, according to Kpop Vine.
The medical-themed TV series tells the story of a famous surgeon dubbed as "Hand of God" because of his phenomenal success rate in surgery. He disappeared from the big hospital he is working and appeared in a small hospital where he is called Teacher Kim. The drama will end on Jan. 16.
