The days of seeing a sniveling and cowardly Rick (Andrew Lincoln) in the AMC apocalyptic series "The Walking Dead" will soon be over. Latest spoiler news teased of a paradigm shift that will happen in the back half of Season 7 that will involve its protagonist Rick, including the series' storyline.
The first half of "The Walking Dead" gave viewers a glimpse at a different Rick who cowered before the sadistic Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Fearing for the safety of his family and loved ones, Rick tried his best to comply with the Savior leader's demands to avoid the death of another friend after Negan killed Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz).
However, the midseason finale of "The Walking Dead" Season 7 showed that despite Rick's efforts to be a good follower, Negan continued his mean streak and even killed another Alexandrian resident. The villain's actions proved to be too much for the Alexandrian leader who decided to prepare for a rebellion against the Saviors.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lincoln commented that the second half of Season 7 will feature a storyline that is a total opposite of earlier episodes. Rick will also be a different man who has regained his fighting spirit and will even have moments of levity, according to the actor.
Lincoln also teased that the upcoming episode 16 will contain a scene that will delight avid fans. He added, "I promise you, there is one beat in [episode] 16, I dropped my script and started punching the air and did a little jig."
Showrunner Scott Gimple also echoed the same sentiment during his earlier interview with Comic Book. After highlighting how the back half of "The Walking Dead" Season 7 will have a different "vibe" than the season's first episodes, he commented that the structure of remaining episodes will feature a storyline that will place beloved characters in "a very, very different situation."
"The Walking Dead" Season 7 returns to the small screens on Feb. 12, Sunday, on AMC. Watch a teaser clip from the upcoming midseason premiere below:
