Several South Korean dramas (Kdramas) have reached impressive TV ratings during the first week of January. Two of SBS' dramas namely "Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim" and "Legend of the Blue Sea" both reached the 20 percent mark while tvN's "Goblin" also posted high ratings.
Avid Kdrama fans have had their pick of several TV series with various genres that featured some of South Korea's famous celebrities. Among the multitude of Korean dramas, several shows became trending online topics such as "Legend of the Blue Sea," "Goblin" and the medical series "Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim."
Recently, the viewership share of Gong Yoo's fantasy drama "Goblin" across the Seoul metropolitan area reached more than 15 percent, according to Nielsen Korea, as cited by All Kpop. Aired on Jan. 6, Friday, episode 11 of the tvN drama even peaked at 17.2 percent.
Meanwhile, episode 15 of Lee Min Ho's mermaid drama "Legend of the Blue Sea" posted a TV rating of 20.1 percent across Seoul's metropolitan area. The said viewership share marked the third time that the SBS drama crossed the 20 percent level with the first two instances happening in late November and early December 2016.
However, "Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim" took the top spot in the TV ratings race with viewership shares of more than 25 percent, according to Nielsen Korea, as cited by Korea Herald. Episode 17 of the SBS medical drama posted a viewership share of 26.8 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area and nationwide ratings of 25.1 percent.
The SBS medical drama tells the story of top surgeon Yong Joo (Han Suk-kyu) who gave up his promising career in Seoul after a traumatic experience. Moving to a small hospital in Gangwon Province, he changed his name to Teacher Kim to mentor promising physicians to become highly moral and outstanding doctors.
"Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim" airs every Monday and Tuesday, "Legend of the Blue Sea" releases new episodes every Wednesday and Thursday while "Goblin" airs on Friday and Saturday. Watch a clip from the SBS medical drama below:
