EXO is one of the biggest boybands in history, literally and figuratively, and member Kai is one of the most recognizable members due to his handsome looks and model-like physique. However, EXO's lead dancer revealed in an interview that he never wanted to become a member of an idol group.
Speaking to Sports Seoul, Kai reflected on the year that has passed and EXO's successes in 2016. He also revealed his aspirations for the coming year. For a group that receives multiple awards every single year, including last year's Bonsang, Daesang and Hallyu Special Award, it is a no-brainer that the members strive hard to improve their talents everyday.
According to Koreaboo, Kai revealed that on days when he doesn't have anything scheduled, he attends five hours of dance practice, two to three hours of acting classes and three hours of singing class. To sum it up, the young star basically completes his day at 2am.
He then revealed that he never intended to become an idol and audition for SM Entertainment. As a matter of fact, his original goal was to become a ballet dancer.
"Ever since I was young, I went to all kinds of music classes. I had the most interest in dance, and so when I was eight, I started ballet and I won a national competition for it," Kai shared, as quoted by Soompi.
It was his father who encouraged him to audition for SM Entertainment. The schedule for his audition, however, was on the same day as his interview to an arts school that specializes in ballet. Kai initially chose to go to the arts school interview instead of the SM Entertainment audition, but he changed his mind when his father bribed him by telling him he would buy Kai a video game.
Kai's father has been his biggest supporter. He prepared for Kai's audition by sending video tapes of his dance practices to SM Entertainment. It was through his father's efforts that Kai managed to score an audition for the agency.
Today, Kai is one of the most popular idol group members of his time and is part of the global phenomenon that is EXO.
