British cast member Freddie Highmore takes part in a panel discussion of A&E's "Bates Motel"
"Bates Motel" Season 3 premiered on A&E Monday, Mar. 9. In an interview, lead actors Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore talked about their characters Norma and Norman Bates, respectively, saying the two "will be emotionally closer" in this new chapter.
In an interview with People, Farmiga said "(s)exual feeling does crop up" between Norma and Norman as they get "emotionally closer." The same report said the viewers can expect an "inappropriate kiss" between mother and son.
In a separate interview, Highmore said "Bates Motel" Season 3 is darker than the show's past seasons. To People, Highmore said Norma and Norman Bates will have a relationship akin to husband-and-wife. This becomes apparent in the first episode, where Dylan (Max Theiriot) finds them spooning in bed.
Meanwhile, Max Theiriot's Dylan is expected to have his own new chapter in the storyline of "Bates Motel" Season 3. Dylan is now well aware of Norman's episodes and the dangers that lurk in their lives because of his brother's nature.
Emma (Olivia Cooke) is also expected to learn more about Norman, as she continues to get involved in the lives of the Bates. Emma is also expected to have scenes with Annika Johnson (Tracy Spiridakos), who gets introduced in "Bates Motel" Season 3.
A&E Network aired the premiere episode of "Bates Motel" Season 3 on Mar. 9, Monday. Episode 2, titled "The Arcanum Club," will air on Mar. 16.
"Bates Motel" is a series prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film "Psycho." The film itself is an adaptation of a 1959 novel of the same name, written by Robert Bloch.
