Chevrolet is planning to dominate the three-row crossover sector with its all-new 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The car is expected to come with various lures, among them, a new sharper styling, more passenger volume, and cargo space.
According to Car and Driver, the Traverse borrows its inspiration from Chevy's full-size SUVs and strikes a more defined appearance, especially in its back. To give customers a range of visual choices to choose from, the automaker included several fresh trim levels including a blacked-out RS model with back bow tie badges, black chrome grille, and 20-inch wheels.
For luxury enthusiasts, there is a lavish High country model with everything needed to bring the sparkle. This deluxe build is adorned by clear LED headlights, 20-inch polished wheels, special badges on its outside, brown leather seats with suede accents, and power-folding back seats.
Although Chevrolet Traverse will offer more space, it will all depend on the trim level. For instance, select models will provide space for up to eight passengers, with the back-row passenger segment leaving over 33 inches of legroom, all thanks to a longer wheelbase.
For infotainment, Traverse's Mylink system will handle duties by the help of 7 or 8-inch touchscreens on its dashboard. Fans of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will not have to worry as MyLink has capabilities of running both programs as well. An extra treat of OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and USB charging ports will keep the occupants busy.
With new safety tech onboard, Chevrolet Traverse will include a menu with new items. Some of these include lane keep assist with lane departure warning, front pedestrian braking, forward collision alert surround vision system, and low and high-speed forward automatic braking.
A new V6 3.6-liter engine with approximately 3.5 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, coupled with a nine-speed automatic system will act as the vehicle's standard drivetrain. The combination will tow up to 5000 pounds and return 25 miles per gallon on the highway and 18 in the city.
However, the horsepower, torque, and fuel consumption will vary with the Traverse model, according to Car Scoops. Depending on the wheel-drive system, for example, the car will have different ratings and capabilities.
A four-wheel-drive model will be capable of disconnecting the rear axle to boost fuel efficiency when conditions allow. Similarly, the High country model will come with a twin-clutch all-wheel drive system for improved performance in both slick and dry conditions and so forth.
Although no pricing details have been released, car experts predict that the price will start from $29,000, which is about what today's models cost. The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse will go on sale later this fall.
