Latest reports are out that unnamed Chinese Super League clubs are ready to offer Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli a weekly wage of $1 million to move to China in the ongoing winter transfer window.
The 20-year-old England international is the latest big-name footballer being targeted by cash-rich China top flight squads, ESPN reported. The report said that his suitors are "ready to pay" £809,323 ($1 million) "a week net".
The CSL has already made three big-money acquisitions this winter, with Shanghai SIPG signing Brazilian goalscorer Oscar from Chelsea for $73 million on Dec. 23, Shanghai Shenhua getting Argentine forward Carlos Tevez from Boca Juniors for $87 million on Dec. 29, and Tianjin Teda acquiring John Obi Mikel from Chelsea via a free transfer.
Tevez, Oscar, and Mikel have reportedly received whopping salaries from their respective Chinese sides, making each one of them a part of the world's highest-paid footballers alongside superstars Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Gareth Bale, and Neymar.
Real Madrid's Ronaldo, Manchester United's Wayne Rooney, and Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez are said to be some of the high-profile names in world football who are currently linked with deals to China.
Alli is presently in his second season with the Spurs after being signed by the English Premier League side in the summer of 2015 from former Football League Championship squad Milton Keynes Dons FC for only $6 million.
The Englishman has scored 21 times in a total of 71 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham since then, including six goals in the team's last three games.
Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino said that Alli will command at least £50 million ($61 million) as a release clause as he deems the midfielder "has the ability to be among the best players in Europe for the next decade".
Daily Mail Online indicated that aside from Alli, CSL clubs are also aiming to lure other Premier League players Harry Kane, Ross Barkley, and Daniel Sturridge this winter.
