Asus recently unveiled the new Zenfone AR specs at the Consumers Electronics Show 2017. The new Android smartphone is one of the few devices capable of Daydream VR.
The Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Moto Z and the Moto Z Force are some of the first few phones to support Google's new Daydream VR platform. Now, the new Asus Zenfone AR joins the growing roster thanks to its special hardware.
As the name suggests, the new Asus smartphone also specializes in augmented reality. The feat is made possible thanks to the Tango technology. Asus Zenfone AR features object tracking and depth perception that is better than other Android smartphones, Recombu has learned. The tech is complemented with the three sensors from the rear camera which has 23 megapixels.
Another great addition to the Asus Zenfone AR specs is the 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with Quad HD resolution. It is crisp, clear and efficient since OLED screens only light up where needed.
Powering the Asus Zenfone AR is an updated Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 plus a record-breaking 8GB RAM, Tech Radar reported. It also has a large and generous 256GB internal storage capacity which is more than enough even for the heavy user.
Unfortunately, Asus was unable to get the AR software running during their demonstration at CES 2017. There is no word on when the software will be activated but the company is already working on it considering that it is one of the largest selling points for the smartphone.
Asus outfitted the Zenfone AR with leather which adds to its overall appeal. The front camera has an 8MP snapper and the whole device runs on a 3300mAh battery which would easily see it to last more than a day under moderate use.
The Asus Zenfone AR does not have a price yet and a release date is still pending. Considering the specs, it may be right to estimate that it will be as expensive as the Galaxy S7 Edge or even the Google Pixel XL.
