Popular K-pop girl group 2NE1 will release its final single this January. The single, titled "Goodbye," is set for release on Jan. 21.
YG Entertainment, which handles the girl group, confirmed that the band will release the single and dedicate it to their fans following their breakup as a group. The entertainment agency said in a statement that the group came together to record the song as their way of apologizing to their fans for their disbandment, Soompi reported.
In its official statement, YG Entertainment said, "The members of 2NE1 were sad that they weren't able to say their final goodbyes to fans after their sudden disbandment, so they've come together for one last song. 2NE1 was much-loved, not just in Korea, but all around the world, and they will be saying their official last goodbyes through this upcoming song."
"Goodbye" will feature the voices of 2NE1 members Park Bom, CL and Sandara Park. The group, which was originally a quartet before Minzy left, took to social media to announce their decision to finally disband November last year. The group also expressed their apologies to their fans after confirming their disbandment.
Minzy was the first to leave the group in April 2016. She decided to leave the group last year to pursue her career as a solo artist.
On Nov. 25, 2016, two years after the release of their final album, 2NE1 officially disbanded. The disbandment was first announced by YG Entertainment through an official release on the company's website, Billboard reported. The agency also announced that following the disbandment, CL and Dara renewed contracts with the agency but the final member, Park Bom would no longer be managed by the company.
2NE1 surged to popularity with their 2000 debut single titled "Fire," which was known worldwide for the swaggering girl power anthem "I'm the Best." They released their final album as a quartet in 2014 and performed together at the 2015 Mnet Asia Music Awards (MAMA). 19 of their hits made it on the World Digital Songs chart and three of their albums appeared on the Top 10 of the World Albums chart.
