2NE1 fans are in for a treat. Just a day after it was announced that the girl group will release a farewell song for the fans, new reports revealed the full story behind how their final single came to be.
The girl group's former leader CL actually wrote the lyrics of "Good Bye" along with musicians Rock Monroe and J Gramm, according to Korean newsoutlet Star News, as cited by Soompi. The said single is all about 2NE1's disbandment and was originally a song for the former's solo promotions in the United States.
However, YG Entertainment thought it would be nice to release "Good Bye" as 2NE1's farewell song for the fans. Hence, they contacted Park Bom and Sandara Park to meet for one last time. Since Minzy has already signed an exclusive contract with a different agency, it is unlikely that she will partake in the project.
"The members of 2NE1 were sad that they weren't able to say their final goodbyes to fans after their sudden disbandment, so they've come together for one last song," YG Entertainment said. "2NE1 was much-loved, not just in Korea, but all around the world, and they will be saying their official last goodbyes through this upcoming song."
The entertainment label stated that the recording of the final song and filming for the music video has been completed. "Good Bye" will be released on Jan. 21.
The good news comes nearly two months after it was announced that 2NE1 is officially disbanding. Rather than waiting for an obscure amount of time for the group's next promotions, YG Entertainment has decided to concentrate on CL, Dara and Park Bom's activities as a solo artist, according to Korean newsoutlet OSEN.
Prior to the disbandment news, 2NE1 seemed to be preparing to come back to the music spotlight with the release of a new album. It intensified when Park Bom surprised the fans by returning to social media for the first time in two years in late October 2016.
