Nam Joo-Hyuk, who currently stars in MBC's "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo," is taking on another acting gig. The 22-year-old actor is said to be in negotiations to play the lead role in an upcoming tvN drama.
On Jan. 02, Monday, several reports claimed Nam is receiving a lot of love calls from various TV projects. In particular, the actor has been offered to play the lead male role in the new tvN drama tentatively titled "Bride of the Water God."
Nam's entertainment label YG Entertainment then confirmed the good news to All Kpop and stressed that the former is still reviewing the offer. If he accepts it, he will play a temperamental deity, Habaek aka The Water God, who takes the most beautiful woman as his bride in exchange of rain.
Based on the webcomic "Habaekui Shinboo" by Yoon Mi-Kyung, "Bride of the Water God" will be developed for television screen by producing-director (PD) Kim Byung-Soo. The script will be penned Jung Yoon-Jung, whose previous projects include the 2012 historical drama "Arang and the Magistrate."
"Bride of the Water God" is said to be a 100 percent pre-produced drama and will be released sometime this year. More details about the project will be revealed soon.
Currently, Nam is starring alongside Lee Sung-Kyung in MBC's coming-of-age drama "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo." He plays a skilled swimmer, Jung Joon-Hyung, who suffers from a trauma that started when he got disqualified at his first big international competition.
At the drama's press conference in November 2016, Nam shared the preparations he underwent for the role. He revealed he focused more on getting his postures right and added that he sometimes had to swim throughout the day for a shoot.
"I began to wonder if I might end up becoming a real swimmer," Yonhap News Agency quoted Nam as saying. "I can swim enough at least to survive anywhere."
