With Xiaomi running behind the scenes on a mysterious smartphone for quite some time, a recent leak revealed the company's upcoming Redmi Note smartphone after it passed US certification, which could hint its arrival soon. The listing even disclosed the device's specifications, pricing and availability.
In the leaked information first sighted by The Leaker, the new Xiaomi device could be the Redmi Note 4's successor, Redmi Note 5, or a Snapdragon build of Redmi Note 4. In the looks of the mysterious device's specs, it draws a closer feature to the Redmi Note 4 handset with its 5.5-inch Full HD resolution display.
Under the hood, the next Xiaomi smartphone will reportedly equip Qualcomm's 64-bit Snapdragon 652 octa-core SoC (four Cortex A53 cores and four Cortex A72 cores). However, reports claim that it could still sport MediaTek's 64-bit Helio X25 deca-core SoC (eight Cortex A53 cores and two Cortex A72 cores), BGR has learned.
If the device will be released as the Redmi Note 5, it will feature a full HD 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, coupled with Gorilla Glass 4 Protection for scratch resistance. Inside, the smartphone will be paired with 4GB of RAM, and will pack 32GB and 64GB built-in storage onboard. The storage should be expandable for up to 128GB via a microSD slot.
In its optics department, the Redmi Note 5 will sport a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-snapper. The smartphone will be fueled with 4000 mAh battery, coupled with Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Its security suite will feature a fingerprint sensor located at the phone's rear panel, below the rear camera.
Its connectivity options include VoLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11n, GPS, and USB Type-C port. Its software should run on Android 7.1 Nougat-based MIUI 9.
Based on rumors, the Redmi Note 5's price could start from 191$ (or Rs 13,000). It will also be available in three color variants, namely Gold, Silver, and Black variants.
The device is expected to be unveiled sometime in summer, and will initially be released in China market, before expanding on the Asian markets. On another note, the Redmi Note 4X recently appeared on Chinese certification site TENAA, marking its possible release in the near future.
