NetherRealm Studios has released a brand new story trailer for "Injustice 2." The video teases key plot points and reveals cinematic teases of brand new characters. The game's main villain has also been revealed.
All of the sequences shown in the trailer are CGI cutscenes, without any footage of gameplay. However, there are characters in the trailer that were not present in the first title. The new characters shown include Robin, Supergirl, Poison Ivy and Darkseid.
Several other scenes recap the events that preceded the whole series, such as the moment Lois Lane died and when High Councilor Superman murdered the Joker. The opening sequence also teases the evil Superman in his prison and indicates he still has enough power left to break out.
The main villain has also been shown and it is revealed to be Brainiac, a villain most associated with Superman and Supergirl. Brainiac is known as one of the most intelligent beings in the universe, having captured civilizations across space, and has the most advanced technology known in the galaxy.
Brainiac will not be working alone. The remaining followers of High Councilor Superman have united to form their own organization known as The Society, the Playstation Blog reported. This team will be going up against the insurgency led by Batman and the heroes from the main universe.
Although the trailer shows Robin it does not reveal which Robin is going to be in the game. It is heavily hinted to be Dick Grayson, the first Robin who later rebelled and became Nightwing. There is also the possibility of this Robin being Jason Todd, the second Robin who later became the violent vigilante known as the Red Mask.
At the very end of the trailer Darkseid is shown walking towards the camera. It is then confirmed that he will be a playable character but is only offered as a pre-order bonus. It is still uncertain if Darkseid will become available later on as paid DLC.
"Injustice 2" will also have multiple editions, Dual Shockers reported. There will be the Standard Edition, a Digital Deluxe Edition and an Ultimate Edition. All three editions will contain the base game but the latter two will come with exclusive bonus content.
The Digital Deluxe Edition will come with three downloadable fighters, the Power Girl premiere skin for Supergirl and the exclusive Defender Shader Pack. The Ultimate Edition comes with nine downloadable fighters, alternate skins for The Flash, Supergirl and Green Lantern and both the Defender and Destroyer Shader Pack.
"Injustice 2" launches on May 16 for the PS4 and Xbox One. The story trailer can be viewed below:
