Former collegiate standout Jimmer Fredette might not have been a big star in the NBA, but he has found his new kingdom in the Chinese Basketball Association.
The King of Loneliness
Fredette, who was considered as a standout player during his college days at BYU was a first round pick in the 2011 NBA draft, playing for the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, and the New York Knicks during his five-year stint.
In 2016, he moved eastward, joining the Shanghai Sharks in the CBA, the New York Post reported.
Upon his entry, Chinese fans quickly embraced Fredette's playing style. The 27-year-old player is known for his 3-pointers and ability to distance himself from defense, which takes advantage of the fact that the latter is not that intense in CBA games.
For that, the fans dubbed him as the "King of Loneliness," which came from a reading of the Chinese characters used to spell his name. Fredette's wife, Whitney, explained that "loneliness" is a trait usually seen as honorable in China, emphasizing his "invincibility."
And Fredette showed that he is definitely one of the kings of the CBA, averaging 37.3 points per game.
He also showcased impressive stats, shooting 49 percent from the floor and 41 percent from the three-point line.
He also registered a spectacular 83 percent from the free throw line.
Fredette also wowed the crowd during the CBA\s All-Star Weekend, winning the 3-point contest, before hitting 32 points during the All-Star game.
Not Quitting
Meanwhile, Fredette's camp clarified that he isn't quitting basketball anytime soon.. Whitney made the clarification after malicious tweets about him purportedly quitting were sent out from his Twitter account, Vanquish The Foe reported.
Fredette's side explained that his account was temporarily hacked, with the culprit traced to be posting the fake tweets from Germany. The tweets have since been deleted, with Fredette getting full control of his account again.
