"Goblin" recently lost to "Legend of the Blue Sea" for the first time ever since Gong Yoo's series premiered.
According to Soompi, the "Legend of the Blue Sea" starring Lee Min Ho defeated "Goblin" in this week's ratings. Both K-dramas premiered during the latter part of 2016, but "Goblin" airs on tvN and "Legend of the Blue Sea" airs on SBS. Both TV series are star-studded, but they also air on different timeslots.
On Jan. 13, "Goblin's" episode received a 15.5 rating, while "Legend of the Blue Sea's" Jan. 12 episode received 20.8 percent. However, loyal fans of "Goblin" are defending the series by saying that it airs on cable network so less viewers may have access to the show. SBS, on the other hand, is considered free television.
Meanwhile, despite its lower ratings when compared to "Legend of the Blue Sea," one episode from "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God" received the show's highest rating.
In the scene, Kim Shin embraced Ji Eun Tak after saving her. But the emotional scene ended with Kim Shin's body evaporating into thin air while Ji Eun Tak was still holding him. This scene appeared in episode 11, and the installment received 17.2 percent rating.
The second most popular scene from "Goblin" was featured in episode 12. In the scene, Kim Shin discovered that Sunny reincarnated as Kim Sun's younger sister. In total, the series received 15 percent ratings for episode 12.
In other news, following the success of "Goblin," the cast of the hit K-drama will go to Phuket, Thailand for a short vacation starting Feb. 6. A source from the series explained that the vacation will serve as a way for the cast and staff to bond and relax.
"All the members are trying to adjust their schedules so as not to miss the opportunity. It will be a good chance to bond and recharge themselves," the insider said.
"Goblin" will air its 14th episode on Friday, Jan. 20. It will be followed by a three-hour finale on Saturday, Jan. 21.
"Legend of the Blue Sea" airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on SBS.
