"Switched at Birth" Season 5 will soon premiere on Freeform, and big things are in store for both Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne (Katie Leclerc).
While speaking with TV Guide, Marano said that the final season of the hit series will serve as a coming to terms for the two characters. Since the series is all about identity, Bay, Daphne and the other characters will answer the question, "What defines you?"
"Is it your family or your environment? What is so nice about all of this is it that we have come to a point with these girls - we started with these girls when they were teenagers just starting to figure themselves out," she said.
Throughout the entire season, Bay and Daphne will turn into the people they have always wanted to be. Not only are they adults; they have also adjusted to the fact that they were switched at birth.
"We finally get to see these characters who we have known for five seasons get to be the person that they want to be. There are flaws, there are pros, there are cons, but they are becoming more comfortable in their skins. That is a beautiful thing that anyone can relate to, especially the people who have been watching and growing up with the show," she said.
Meanwhile, now that Bay and Daphne are adults, it is possible for them to think about marriage. Season 4 ended with Bay still having strong feelings for Emmett (Sean Berdy). But Travis (Ryan Lane) also told her that he has feelings for her.
While speaking with TV Line, executive producer Lizzy Weiss said that Bay will return to the United States after working in China with a tough decision to make. She would have to choose between Emmett or Travis.
"Did she catch up to Travis' feelings in the time away, or did the time away make her realize that Emmett is and always will be the one?" she said. Regardless of Bay's decision, Berdy will play a huge role in "Switched at Birth" Season 5 unlike in the previous season when he only had limited screen time.
"Switched at Birth" Season 5 will premiere on Freeform on Jan. 31 at 9 p.m. EST.
