Japanese hit anime "Death Note" is set to make its way to America in the form of a musical play. The play has been in development since December 2013, but it was not until April 2015 that the project actually debuted in Japan. Now, the show's writer has confirmed that the musical will finally come to America.
"Death Note" writer Ivan Menchell recently took to Twitter to address fans who wanted to know when the English version of the play would come to America. The writer answered the fans, "Coming soon!"
When the musical debuts in America, fans of the popular anime will hear some of their favorite "Death Note" tracks in English, Comicbook reported. Prior to its official debut in April 2015, the creators of the "Death Note" musical held a workshop for the project in New York City, where artists like Robert Cucciolo, Any Kelso and Adrienne Warren lent their voices for songs like "Where is the Justice?"
Since the "Death Note" musical play debuted, it has already had runs in several countries in Asia. Tokyo and Seoul have hosted the most number of productions since 2015.
In other news, later this year, "Death Note" is also set to get its live-action adaptation in America, although it will not make use of any musical numbers. As reported by Manga News, director Adam Wingard will soon debut his take on a "Death Note" film which will potentially be starred by actors like Nat Wolff. Japanese video game developer Kaze also recently announced that it would offer the anime in DVD and Blu-ray format soon.
"Death Note" is a popular anime series best known for its violent and dark overtones. It was originally published as a manga that centers on the story of Light Yagami, whose life starts to change after stumbling upon a mysterious notebook with deadly powers. Whenever the high school student writes a person's name on the pages of the notebook, that person dies. Eventually, Light gets intoxicated by his godlike power that he begins to kill everyone he deems unworthy to live, while the police officers continue on their quest to track down the mysterious deaths.
