"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey was once one of the most feared women in all of mixed martial arts. However, she has been on the losing end of her past two matchups. She lost her UFC women's bantamweight title in the first and was beaten badly by current champion Amanda Nunes in the second, getting knocked out in the first few moments of the fight.
During the post-fight happenings of UFC 207, Nunes stated that Rousey's time in the sport was over and that she should hang up her gloves. Despite her harsh comments from less than a month ago, Nunes now wants to offer Rousey some advice regarding a potential return to the sport.
"It's harder to lose, but if you be strong, you'll be able to come back like I did," Nunes said in her interview with Fox. She added that Rousey should invest in a new foundation in her training routine including changes to her camp and possibly even jumping ship to a different gym. This same strategy worked for Nunes who won her last five fights, including the one against Rousey, after losing via TKO to Cat Zingano back in UFC 178.
This could be just what Rousey needs to kickstart her climb back up the UFC's power rankings. After all, her coach Edmund Tarverdyan faced major controversy after inadequately improving Rousey's standup game when she had to face exceptional strikers such as Nunes, MMA Fighting reported.
Tarverdyan also received backlash for sending Rousey into her bout with Nunes with a striking-based game plan. Fight fans argued that she should have tried to take her to the ground and submit her instead. Even Nunes believes that it was egotistical of Rousey to try and trade strikes with her.
Rousey has kept pretty quiet regarding her future in mixed martial arts. If Rousey does not return, Nunes will not have much competition in the thinning UFC bantamweight division. Other well known fighters in her division include the now-retired Miesha Tate as well as former champion Holly Holm, who is set to do battle with Germaine de Randamie for the inaugural UFC women's featherweight title.
