The 2016-2017 Bundesliga season gets underway again after a long winter break and lowly team Werder Bremen (4-8-4, 16 points) takes on perennial contenders Borussia Dortmund (7-3-6, 27 points) on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Weser-Stadion.
Start Time and Streaming Info
The game starts at 9:30 a.m. ET. It can be viewed live online thru FuboTV.
Werder Bremen is on a five-game unbeaten run, which includes two wins and three draws, to quietly separate themselves from the bottom three relegation area. The team is now in the 15th spot of the 18-squad Bundesliga table, three points ahead of bottom three side Hamburger SV.
In their most recent German top flight match on Dec. 21, Die Werderaner settled to a 1-1 draw with contending squad Hoffenheim on the road at the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena for their second straight drawn game, as per ESPN.
Hoffenheim forward Sandro Wagner opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a close-range left-footed shot off an assist by Turkish midfielder Kerim Demirbay following a corner kick.
It looked like a loss for head coach Alexander Nouri's squad as the clock slowly runs out, but Bremen was able to find the equalizer in the 87th minute courtesy of a right-footed shot by Olympian striker Serge Gnabry from a pass by Argentine defender Santiago Garcia.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund, last season's runner-ups, have not been in their top form in the recent months as the team has settled to the sixth spot of the German top flight standings. They have drawn their last three matches and have won two of their previous three games.
Dortmund was held to a 1-1 tie by lowly club Augsburg on Dec. 20 at their own home ground of Signal Iduna Park for their final Bundesliga match of 2016, Press TV reported.
Augsburg was able to break the deadlock in the 33rd minute of the match with a left-footer from South Korean forward Ji Dong-Won following a fast break play.
Head coach Thomas Tuchel's side leveled the count two minutes after the restart with a left-footed shot from the center of the box by French striker Ousmane Dembélé off an assist by Japanese winger Shinji Kagawa.
