Cyanide Studios have released a brand new trailer for their upcoming horror game, "Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game." While it does not showcase any gameplay, it does shed some light on the main character, the plot and the setting of the game.
The trailer reveals the playable character is known as Detective Edward Pierce. At the beginning of the trailer, the authorities call on Pierce for assistance revolving around a murder case but by the end of the trailer Pierce is shown dealing with an occult and his own insanity.
One of the first cases will involve the death of a famed artist and his whole family, Attack of the Fanboy reported. This will then grow and further expand into connected cases that relate to cults and the supernatural. The trailer does tease this with the imagery of mutilated corpses and a haunted forest.
It is further stated that the game will be in both first-person and third-person and is designed as an RPG-investigation game more so than a survival horror. It will also have a strong emphasis on insanity, psychological horror and stealth. Combat mechanics have not yet been shown.
Very many horror games are inspired bythe work of H.P Lovecraft but there are not many direct video game adaptations, Games Radar reported. Some of these include the "Alone in the Dark" franchise, the "Dead Space" trilogy and even the "Resident Evil" games.
The most notable in recent years is the 2005 game, "Call of Cthulhu: Dark of Corners of the Earth." There is also "At the Mountains of Madness" game which is currently on Steam Early Access but so far it is garnering negative reviews.
"Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game" will launch later this year for PS4, Xbox One and PC. No Nintendo Switch port has yet been announced. The official trailer can be viewed below:
