The Governor's Ball is an event where people from the high society get to have a close encounter with all the candidates of Miss Universe 2016 in one venue. Reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach has made her first appearance for the near pageant's official ball that took place in SMX Convention Hall in Pasay City, Manila.
The Governor's Ball is named after Luis Chavit Singson, a former Ilocos Sur governor. The gala follows a black tie dinner with the world-class talents performances. It is Mr. Singson's way in bringing his pageant supporters together while on the red carpet with international guests.
As Wurtzbach is preparing on pass her crown to the next Ms. Universe, she also shared on how the pageant will be hosted by the Philippines. She also revealed that everything started from a simple idea.
During the ball, Wurtzbach had a speech remembering the time when she won Miss Universe. She learned that the president of the pageant organization, Paula Shugart have always wanted to have the pageant in the Philippines and asked Wurtzbach that maybe she can address the idea and attract some interest and make it possible, ABS-CBN News reported.
Miss Universe Wurtzbach later did the plan and was able to make a connection to the private sectors and finally made it successful. She also thanked everyone for all of the support that was given to her and to the Miss Universe organization from the Department of Tourism, Luis Chavit Singson, and his LCS group, Inquirer reported.
While Wurtzbach was on the stage in front of the guests most especially the 2016 Ms. Universe candidates, she was able to talk about the different scenarios, obstacles, and hardships that a candidate will go through in representing each of their country's pride on the pageant. She also shared how proud she was that finally, the pageant will happen in the country which is the best way to end her reign.
