"Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King" has recently released for the Nintendo 3DS and along with comes a new launch trailer. The footage primarily focuses on introducing the game's story, characters and gameplay mechanics.
The beginning of the trailer highlights the main quest of the game. Players will embark on a journey to aid a king and his daughter who have been transformed into a goblin and a horse. Along the way they will gain new allies and must stop the evil sorcerer responsible from destroying the world.
New to the 3DS version are two playable characters: Red the Pirate and the monster area handler Morrie. Random encounters on the world map have been eliminated as enemies can now be seen and avoided and there are a few tweaks regarding character stats, voice acting and the alchemy pot.
Also shown in the trailer are the numerous methods of travel. These include walking on the world map, riding on horseback, sailing through the skies and riding a ship across the seas. Players can also mount monsters they have tamed.
Captured monsters can also be used in the game's new Monster Arena, Attack of the Fanboy reported. This part of the game allows players to pit their monsters in gladiatorial matches against other teams.
A few new story segments have been adjusted and some are also brand new, specifically for the 3DS version. A few costumes have been altered from their original versions as well, due to censorship concerns.
The game originally launched for the Playstation 2 back in 2004 in Japan and in 2005 in North America. This new 3DS port launched in Japan back in 2015 and was scheduled to release in late 2016 until it was pushed back for January this year, Dual Shockers reported.
