Apple is expected to reveal iPhone 8 specs soon after the iPhone 7s will be released. Leaks and rumors regarding the new flagship smartphone have already surfaced.
The prevailing iPhone 8 rumor is that it will be the first one from Apple to feature an OLED screen. Sharp, Samsung or LG is expected to supply the panels for the Cupertino-based tech giant's smartphone.
Apple has been using the traditional LCD panels for their previous and current smartphones just like other companies as well. However, OLED panels are generally better at battery consumption because only the non-black pixels light up and use up energy.
The iPhone 8 specs may also include facial recognition thanks to a laser and infrared sensor that will be placed beside the front camera, Forbes has learned. It could make sense considering that Samsung already has the Iris scanner in the now-deceased Galaxy Note 7 phablet.
Users would not need to enter their Touch ID or passwords whenever accessing the iPhone 8. It will save time but only if the technology proves to be faster than the fingerprint sensor.
Apple may also release the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus before the anniversary smartphone which is dubbed as Ferrari. The timeline for the release is not yet determined.
The iPhone 8 may also feaure wireless charging thanks to a glass back while quick charge is also possible when using a cable, PC Advisor reported. Apple's wireless charging is also speculated to be more powerful and robust compared to Samsung's as it would reportedly be able to charge even 15 feet away from the station.
Since the screen is expected to be borderless with an OLED panel, the home button will also reportedly be hidden or integrated into the screen itself. It may also house the Touch ID sensor.
Apple is not due to unveil the iPhone 8 specs, release date and price for another six months. The iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7s Plus are expected to be revealed first.
