Nexus and Pure Android fans rejoice. If rumors are true there will be another vanilla Android flagship from the Google-made Pixel and Pixel XL and it will be the LG G6 that is expected to be unveiled via the Barcelona MWC 2017 gadget show. On release date, the device is rumored with a feature upgrade that will make a cut above the rest of Android handsets.
"There are rumors that the G6 ... will be featured with Google's artificial intelligence (AI) voice assistant service Google Assistant," Business Korea reported last week. AI on the LG G6 will be the result of LG's close partnership with Google and Amazon for the LG G5 sequel to be packed with features that are seen as the wave of the future, the report added.
In the same way that Google Assistant will be part of the G6 right out of the box, the likelihood of Alexa, which is the Amazon counterpart of Google Assistant, will be on board too appears to be gaining traction. "LG Electronics has also left open the possibility of cooperation with Amazon. The company already used Amazon's AI technology Alexa in its new home appliances products," the same report added.
The plan when realized is likely to lure in Android fans that were orphaned by Google's decision to kill the Nexus brand last year in favor of the Pixel smartphones. An LG G6 with Pixel-only device features is the closest thing that Pure Android fans can get to a Nexus handset as LG was Google's long-time partner with the Nexus project that ran for nearly seven years.
Many Nexus followers still regard the Pure Android phones made by LG as among the best that Google had issued. LG was responsible for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 5X. And all the devices were patterned after LG's flagship models at the time of their respective releases.
And with the LG G6 lined up to get a significant Nexus-like feature, it will appear that the beloved smartphone brand is somehow resurrected with Google and LG again collaborating on the endeavor.
Speculations are rife that the LG G6 will be the first Android flagship to break into the smartphone scene, likely ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and will make use too of Qualcomm's next-generation Snapdragon 835 processing chip with support coming from 4GB of RAM. The phone is said to rock a 5.7-inch screen with QHD+ display technology.
NDTV reported that the G6 will come with heat pipes that will serve as protection against battery overheating and possible device explosion, which obviously is an added feature to avoid the same fate suffered by the Galaxy Note 7 in late 2016.
As mentioned, the LG G6 will be previewed via the MWC 2017, indicating that revelation will happen as early as February 26 with the actual release date likely set in early March.
